Changes to Cancer WGS eligibility
From November 1st, NHS England have made a series of changes to the eligibility criteria for cancer WGS testing. This is so that WGS testing can be focused on those patients for whom there is the greatest clinical impact.
The changes are being implemented based on comparison of data from WGS and standard of care tests and detailed review of outcome data at a national level.
In summary:
- For haemato-oncology referrals, WGS will be targeted to paediatric/TYA patients and remain standard of care.
- For solid tumour referrals, WGS will be targeted to paediatric and CNS/brain tumours only.
Exceptions:
- Adult Haem-onc cases who have exhausted all standard of care options should be discussed with, and approved by, the SE-GMS haem-onc medical lead, Dr Deborah Yallop, or a nominated deputising consultant.
- Adult solid tumour patients who have exhausted all standard of care options should be discussed with, and approved by, the SE-GMS solid tumour clinical leads, Dr Nirupa Murugaesu or Dr Debashis Sarker.
