Pharmacists & Pharmacogenomics
Genomic medicine is set to revolutionise how medicines are used across healthcare.
Pharmacogenomics – the study of how our genome influences drug response – is already enabling safer and more effective prescribing decisions. The use of medicines that target specific genetic variants of disease is also expanding.
The pharmacy workforce will play a central role in embedding and utilising genomics to optimise medicines use. There is a need for all pharmacy professionals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver genomic medicine to their patients.
Here are a few examples of why genomics is important to pharmacy.
