Pharmacy Professionals

Genomic medicine is set to revolutionise how medicines are used across healthcare.

Pharmacogenomics – the study of how our genome influences drug response – is already enabling safer and more effective prescribing decisions. The use of medicines that target specific genetic variants of disease is also expanding.

The pharmacy workforce will play a central role in embedding and utilising genomics to optimise medicines use. There is a need for all pharmacy professionals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver genomic medicine to their patients.

The Pharmacy genomics workforce, education and training strategic framework set out a 3-year approach to integrate genomic medicine into pharmacy education and training and workforce development.
