What are our South East Genomic Communities of Practice?
Our Genomic Communities of Practice provide a regular space for clinicians to come together virtually around a speciality interest. They are designed to support learning through discussion, collaboration, and shared experience, helping clinicians apply genomics confidently in day-to-day patient care.
As genomics becomes part of routine clinical care, clinicians need opportunities to build confidence, develop skills and learn from one another. Our Communities of Practice create a supportive network where specialties can share learning, explore evolving guidance and work together to embed genomics into everyday practice. By connecting clinicians across organisations, we can improve consistency, capability and access to high-quality genomic care.
Our Communities of Practice are open to all healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and scientists. By working together, we hope to share experiences and enhance everybody’s skills.

The Renal Community of Practice is aimed at clinicians and teams with an interest in renal medicine and led by Nick Annear, Consultant in Acute Medicine and Nephrology at St George’s Hospital.
The next session is 12:30-1:30pm on Wednesday 30th September.
The Cardiovascular Community of Practice is aimed at clinicians and teams with an interest or specialty in Cardiology. Led by Dr Rachel Bastiaenen, Consultant Cardiologist and Rare Disease Clinical Director for the South East Genomic Medicine Service.
The next session is on Wednesday 9th September from 1-2pm and will focus on interpreting results.
