What are our South East Genomic Communities of Practice?
Our Genomic Communities of Practice provide a regular virtual space for clinicians to come together around a shared specialty interest. As genomics becomes part of routine clinical care, these communities offer opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, learn from one another, and explore evolving guidance. By connecting healthcare professionals across organisations, they support the integration of genomics into everyday practice and help improve consistency, capability, and access to high-quality genomic care.
Communities of Practice are open to all healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and scientists, find your Community below!

The Renal Community of Practice is aimed at clinicians and teams with an interest in renal medicine and led by Nick Annear, Consultant in Acute Medicine and Nephrology at St George’s Hospital.
The next session is 12:30-1:30pm on Wednesday 30th September.
The Cardiovascular Community of Practice is aimed at clinicians and teams with an interest or specialty in Cardiology. Led by Dr Rachel Bastiaenen, Consultant Cardiologist and Rare Disease Clinical Director for the South East Genomic Medicine Service.
The next session is on Wednesday 9th September from 1-2pm and will focus on interpreting results.
We are establishing a Neurology Community of Practice, coming Autumn 2026. We are searching for a Lead for this Community – see further details here!

A successful Community of Practice should have three pillars:
- Buidling a community,
- Providing genomic education, and
- Developing a network to support mainstream genetic testing.
