Renal Community of Practice

We are excited to invite you to join the Renal Genomics Community of Practice! A community of healthcare professionals working in Renal Medicine, supporting each other to develop a better understanding of Genomic Medicine.

South East Renal Genomics Community of Practice aims to:

  • Create a clinician-led network
  • Improve clinician’s understanding of renal genomic testing
  • Enhance patient access to genomic tests
  • Inform and influence patient care

 

Our quarterly online meetings are an opportunity to share best practice, discuss challenges and explore interesting cases.

In this first session we were introduced to the South East Genomic Medicine Service. We learnt how to use the National Genomic Test Directory to request a genomic test. We also reviewed potential outcomes of genomic testing and what these mean for patients.

In this session Andrew Pestaille, Principal Genetic Counsellor at the South West Thames Genetics Service, explained the reproductive options available to families who have an increased chance of having a child with an inherited renal condition. We explored factors to consider when talking to families about PGT and shared some interesting case studies involving PGT treatment.
